Single-pass wedge block linings were the standard for 2m-3m diameter water tunnels in London Clay in the 1980s and 1990s. Advance rates of up to 500m in a five-day week were achieved. Would they be permitted today under the streets of London or accepted as an altenative to bolted and gasketed segmental linings which are often now preferred or specified as part of risk assessment processes.
